Fellowship Program
The SafeSteps Fellowship Program is designed for graduate students, early-career professionals, and community leaders who are passionate about child welfare, mental health, education, and equity.
Fellows work directly with our leadership team and community partners to develop, implement, and evaluate projects that create lasting impact.

Fellowship Tracks
Choose a focus area aligned with your career goals:

Child Welfare & Advocacy Fellowship
Engage in policy research, mandated reporting education, and child abuse prevention campaigns. -
Mental Health & Trauma-Informed Care Fellowship
Assist with implementing trauma-informed programming and support services for families. -
Education & School Readiness Fellowship
Support our “Bridging the Gap” school-based initiative, family workshops, and literacy programs. -
Community Outreach & Public Health Fellowship
Participate in mobile outreach services, needs assessments, and health equity programming.

What Fellows Receive

A project-based fellowship experience (8–12 weeks, part-time or full-time)

Supervision and mentorship by licensed professionals (LSW, BCBA, educators)

Stipend opportunities (when grant-funded)
-
Leadership training, professional development, and community presentations
-
A certificate of completion and recommendation letter
-
Access to future employment opportunities with SafeSteps or our partners.

Eligibility
-
Master’s-level students (MSW, MEd, MPH, MA) or exceptional undergraduates
-
Strong interest in child welfare, public service, and/or education equity
-
Availability to commit to a minimum of 10 hours/week for the fellowship term
Internship Program
SafeSteps proudly offers internships for undergraduate and graduate students in social work, public health, education, psychology, and related fields.
Internship placements may include:

Early childhood education and family programming

Research and policy work
-
Community resource coordination

Data collection and program evaluation
-
Support for grant writing and nonprofit development

Benefits: Hands-on learning, supervision by licensed professionals, letters of recommendation, and potential credit toward academic requirements

The SafeSteps Mentorship Program connects students, early-career professionals, and community members with experienced mentors who are dedicated to fostering growth, leadership, and impact in the fields of child welfare, education, mental health, and public service.
